LIGHT THE CANDLE FOR KIDS
Light the Candle for Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) youth development non-profit organization that addresses disparities in civic education and athletic programs in underserved communities. We use golf as a method to serve both LatinX and Filipino high school students. We believe that golf can teach important values such as sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect which can translate towards active civic responsibility. Together with civic education, we strive to positively impact our community, promote active civic engagement, and have fun!
Dedicating the foundation to Grandfather, Stanley, who tirelessly educated the Polish immigrant community in Port Chester NY during the 1950’s – 2000’s (now deceased). Official proclamation on October 11, 1980, to make this date “Stanley Skrzypczak Day” in Port Chester, Town of Rye, New York
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring the game of golf to underserved Latino and Filipino high school youths in East/South Bay California and teach the values learned from the game of golf and civics to positively impact our communities.

Why “Light the Candle for Kids” name? It’s slang for hitting the ball far plus Christian values on being a “light to shine” within the community . We are trying to do both!
Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”.

Civics is the study of the rights and obligations of citizens in society. In civics, students learn about public processes for government and having discussions of becoming educated on how to engage . Students learn civic practices such as voting, volunteering, jury service, and joining with others to improve society and allow their voice to be heard.
Teaching Civics at a local level and educating my peers who may not have the same opportunities to learn golf and civics is a mission I wish to carry to make a difference. I am using my love of golf to bring high school teens together for fun and combine my passion for educating and discussing US Government and Civics to Latino and Filipino youths in East/South Bay. I am Filipino by heritage and align to the Latino community through the church. Light the Candle for Kids is way for giving back and exposing others to the great game of golf.
